The Grandest Canyon
I left Denver early Saturday morning to pick up Nicole in Breckenridge. We had a great drive through Utah and into Arizona. We made a quick stop at Arches National Park but are saving that park to explore when we are back in Colorado. We had about a ten hour day to get to the southern rim of the Grand Canyon.
We left early Sunday morning and hiked down the Bright Angel Trail. The trail was about 9.5 miles and descends about 4,300 feet. We spent the night just off the Colorado River in the canyon. We both found the bottom of the canyon to be fairly suffocating and were eager to get out. Nicole set a blazing pace out early the next morning, and we made it out in only half an hour more than it took us to get down. We saw a pink rattle snake on the way up that only lives in the canyon.
We are recovering today before heading to Zion National Park. We went just west of Zion to restock and rest a bit. We are heading into the park shortly and hope to do a few good hikes once our legs recover.
