It was a great week in Oahu! We got here Monday afternoon and settled in with Nicole’s cousins, Doug and Jessie. Jessie showed us around a bit, and we picked up their kids from daycare. We had our first poke that night and loved it! It is a raw salad of cubed fish marinated with various sauces; poke is the Hawaiian verb to slice or cut. We hiked Diamonds Head on Tuesday morning before heading to Kailua Beach for the afternoon.
These are definitely the prettiest beaches we have ever seen. Jessie and Doug took us out on the sea kayak from Lanikai Beach on Wednesday morning, and we went about three quarters of a mile out to the Mokulua Islands. We spent about on hour on The Moks before heading back to the beach. Two days in the sun was enough for me so we drove to the North Shore on Thursday. We definitely need to explore the North Shore more next time we are here. We spent the afternoon watching the Bills and having drinks on Waikiki.
We got up early Friday morning and went to Lanikai Beach for the sunrise. Jessie packed us breakfast, and we had a great time before heading to Pearl Harbor. We went out to the USS Arizona before heading up the west coast of the island. Every side of the island is so different, so we enjoyed seeing it all. We spent the afternoon on Kailua Beach and met the kids for an hour before getting dinner. We are packing up this morning and heading to Kauai for a few days. Tropical Storm Kilo has been in the news the last few days, so we are hoping it continues to fall apart. Thanks so much for everything, Doug and Jessie!
