We started our marathon travel week with a 14 hour flight to Beijing. Booking with miles can be tricky because you can't always where you are trying to go when you are trying to get there for reasonable miles. We tried to get to the east coast from Auckland but had no luck so opted for a stop in Tokyo. We had about 200,000 miles left so booked a flight to Tokyo for 70,000 miles for the both of us. Tokyo has much better flights to the USA than most other airports on this side of the world.
Our stopover in Tokyo brought us via China. The flight was surprisingly great. For a 14 hour flight, I got plenty of leg room and slept almost 9 hours and Cole was able to doze off and on. We landed in Beijing at about 5:00am. We were entirely confused where to go but found our way through security and to our next gate without too much trouble. We even had time for calls to both of our lovely parents. We had a 3 hour flight from China to Japan which I capitalized on by finally seeing the new Star Wars. I was very entertained but need to see it again to really comment.
We landed in Tokyo full of airline food and ready for a walk. We managed to find our way through the maze of the Tokyo metro system to our Airbnb. The first thing we both immediately noticed was the insane lack of noise for a city of 37,000,000. We almost felt like we had to whisper in the street making our way to the apartment. We've got our last three days to eat and drink our way through Tokyo. Noodles, sake, and sushi. That's all we want.
